The MCH Equity Lab encourages dependable, highly-motivated undergraduate and graduate students to consider joining the lab. Students who can commit to at least 1-2 academic years are strongly encouraged to apply.
Open Positions
There are NO current openings in the lab. But, please read the information below to prepare for future openings.
Timeline
This formal timeline was established to streamline the process of accepting, orienting, training, and supporting students/trainings. It is important to recognize that this process enables us to provide quality training experiences and produce quality work.

***A special note for students in Cumulative Experience, Honors College, or Undergraduate Research Programs:
- KINE 4359 Cumulative Experience: Students must be accepted into the Lab the semester before they enroll in KINE 4359 (first or second semester of Junior year) to ensure that they are in the lab for a full academic year. Please consult with the Lab’s timeline for accepting students and plan accordingly.
- If we do not have openings, check out the Resources Page for potential internship sites.
- Honors College Students: Students who are completing a Honors senior capstone project must join the Lab at least during their junior year to ensure they are in the lab enough time to complete their honors project. Please consult with the Lab’s timeline for accepting students and plan accordingly.
- Other UTA Research Programs: Students who are interested in working in the Lab as a part of a research program (McNair Scholars, UROP, etc.) should consult with the Lab’s timeline for accepting students and plan accordingly.
Who can join the MRHE lab?
The MRHE Lab welcomes individuals who are reliable, self-motivated, self-starters, and are passionate about reproductive health research or practice. Ideal applicants include:
- Students/trainees who can commit 8-15 hours per week and at least one academic year (see timeline). We avoid taking students for one semester because it can take a semester to get warmed up on a project.
- Students/trainees who are not already committed to an existing research lab.
- Under special circumstances, trainees who are not UTA students or who do not have student status.
Does the Lab offer paid positions?
While we strive to provide paid positions for students, it largely depends on available funding. Most positions in the Lab are volunteer. However, there are some paid positions that may become available to students who have seniority in the Lab. Also, UTA undergraduate students are encouraged to consider applying for the UTA Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) or the UTA McNair Scholars Program which provides financial support to eligible students. Students who apply to these programs can indicate their interest in working with the MCH Equity Lab in their application/interview process.
Does the MRHE Lab accept research and evaluation contracts?
Yes, depending on existing workload, the MRHE Lab does accept research and evaluation contracts with nonprofit organizations.
